The Senegalese forward has made a massive move to Liverpool this summer.
Liverpool recently snapped up Southampton attacker Sadio Mane as their latest recruit this summer.
The Senegalese striker joined the club in a deal reported by the BBC to be worth a figure in the region of £34 million.
That represents a huge outlay from the Anfield club in a player who has admittedly been in fantastic form for Southampton since his arrival from Red Bull Salzburg.
But Liverpool were not the only team linked with his signature, with Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur also said to be keen.
Now the player himself has confirmed that both clubs were interested in his services and that he spoke to former United boss Louis van Gaal.
He is quoted by Senxibar in his homeland as stating:
“Yes, I confirm that Manchester United was hot on the application and Tottenham. I spoke with Louis van Gaal and Red Devil’s hierarchy.
“Fortunately, with my advisers, we decided to take our troubles patiently and let things come about at their own fruition. Liverpool then happened, we decided to go there. I hope this is the best choice. I’m going to progress.”
United of course moved the Dutch manager on and replaced him with Jose Mourinho, who has instead made Borussia Dortmund’s Armenian star Henrikh Mkhitaryan their number one target.
Meanwhile Tottenham, acting on a more frugal budget these days, would have been unlikely to meet the £34 million initial asking price for the player.
Mane is now with Liverpool ahead of their two Premier League rivals and the Anfield faithful will be hoping he can prove a hit.
