Arsenal haven’t made any mention of it on their Twitter account, but Lucas Torreira has left the club again.

Italian side Fiorentina confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that they had signed the Arsenal midfielder on a season-long loan agreement.

According to Sky Sports, La Viola have the option to sign him permanently for less than £13 million next summer, should he impress in Serie A.

The Uruguay international spent last term on loan with Atletico Madrid but it seems like both Mikel Arteta and transfer guru Edu have no long-term plan for the South American, evident by a second-straight year away from the Emirates Stadium now.

Here’s how some Arsenal fans reacted to the news on Twitter:

Tragic

It is quite a sad situation, when you think about it.

This time two years ago, Torreira was considered one of Arsenal’s best players after a brilliant first season in North London under Unai Emery.

But the Spaniard’s departure early in the 2019-20 campaign, combined with Arteta, his successor, not rating the player all that highly, has seen his stock plummet at the club, it has to be said.

Torreira will only have one year left on his Arsenal deal by next summer and the fact that they could lose him for only £12.8 million speaks volumes for his decline in England.

For whatever reason, the former Sampdoria midfielder never really completely settled, but it remains to be seen if it’s an unhappiness with the current management – i.e Edu – or something else.

He has admitted to home sickness in the past, but Italy isn’t much closer to Uruguay than England so, who knows.
