Tottenham Hotspur reportedly aren’t going to try and keep Erik Lamela at the club this summer.
The Argentina international is on the fringes of Spurs’ first XI under caretaker boss Ryan Mason but, really, it’s been years since he was an automatic starter for the North Londoners.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Napoli are keen on the former Roma winger and Tottenham will be allowing him to leave.
Despite being a fringe player, he has conjured up some magical memories for the Tottenham fans – including his rabona in a North London derby against Arsenal this season.
But Lamela went on to get himself sent off in the same game and that evening at the Emirates more or less summed up his career with the Lilywhites, whom he joined in 2013 for £30 million.
But some Spurs fans will be sad to see him go and here’s how they’re reacting to Thursday’s update on Twitter:
This has been coming for a while, if we’re honest.
Lamela has been a decent squad player for a number of years but even at that, Tottenham probably should be looking at better options.
Seventeen goals and 23 assists from 177 Premier League appearances tells its own story about Lamela’s time in England.
