Murty’s tenure as Rangers’ interim manager was brought to an end on Tuesday, after more than six months at Ibrox.

Graeme Murty, Manager of Rangers looks on prior to the Scottish Premier League match between Celtic and Rangers at Celtic Park on April 29, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Sacked Rangers boss Graeme Murty is already being eyed by fans of former club Reading, hours after his Ibrox exit was confirmed.

Murty was due to spend the rest of the season as Rangers’ interim manager, a role into which he stepped following Pedro Caixinha’s dismissal last October.

However, Sunday’s crushing defeat at the hands of Old Firm rivals Celtic – his third loss in four games against the same opponents – has brought a premature end to the Yorkshireman’s spell as manager.

Steven Gerrard of BT Sport looks on during the Emirates FA Cup Final between Arsenal and Chelsea at Wembley Stadium on May 27, 2017 in London, England.

Liverpool youth coach Steven Gerrard is expected to be named Murty’s successor – although the latter could yet return to his previous role in the Ibrox side’s academy.

But with Reading’s relegation fight going down to their final league game despite Paul Clement’s appointment six weeks ago, Murty, it seems, would be welcome back to Berkshire if not.
