Could former Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka be destined for Wolverhampton Wanderers?
Former Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka
Aitor Karanka has become the latest manager to be fired, with Middlesbrough announcing today that he has left the club by mutual consent.
Middlesbrough languish in the Premier League relegation zone, and having battled so hard to get to the top flight, they want to have one last shot at staying there.
Karanka’s top flight spell then ends in disappointment, but his reputation was enhanced by his time at the club, his first job in English football having worked previously as an assistant to Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid.
If looking to get straight back into management, Wolves stand out as a potential destination.
After failing with Walter Zenga, Wolves appointed Paul Lambert at the end of last year, but the dour Scot has failed to get fans onside, with a succession of poor results.

Despite the big investment, Wolves are left fighting relegation rather than challenging for promotion, and while they should retain their Championship status, Lambert’s future is in doubt.
The Sun reported at the weekend that Wolves are keen to appoint an ‘experienced foreign manager’ – and Karanka certainly fits the bill.
He has a Championship promotion on his CV, and top contacts within the game.
The kicker is that he is represented by super agent Jorge Mendes, who works in partnership with Wolves owners Fosun International.
Karanka to Wolves? It all seems a bit too obvious not to happen.
