Murdo MacLeod has urged former club Celtic to back manager Brendan Rodgers in the transfer market this summer, in comments given to the Daily Mail.
The former Liverpool manager was confirmed as the new Celtic boss last month, replacing Ronny Deila at Paradise.
His appointment has been warmly welcomed, with it being considered a major coup for the Scottish Champions.
Many believe that something of an overhaul of the playing squad will be needed, with this current crop considered far below the standard required at Celtic.
And MacLeod has urged the club to back their new manager with transfer funds to do just that.
“You can talk about spending three, four, five million pounds on a player – but Celtic don’t have the money to bring in three of four players of that ilk, he told the Daily Mail.
“So you have to look at loan players or those who are out of contract and pay them a lot of money. They’ve just got to bite the bullet and make sure they qualify for the Champions League.”
It will certainly be interesting to see what level of work that Rodgers manages to achieve in the transfer window this summer.
Moves for Liverpool duo Joe Gomez and Andre Wisdom have already been mooted and they are likely to be the first of many to be linked with a switch.
Key to attracting talent will be whether Celtic can offer European football, and Rodgers will be keen to ensure they secure it to give him that extra pulling power.
