Birmingham City defender Shotton is convinced that the Blues can maintain their push for promotion for this season.
As reported by Birmingham Mail, Birmingham City defender Ryan Shotton has discussed his side’s potential this season with BBC WM Sport as he fully believes they can sustain their promotion charge.
The optimism surrounding St Andrew’s has been gradually rising with each passing week as the Blues continue their push for promotion. The club are placed firmly in the top six and show no signs of slowing down as we approach the next set of Championship fixtures.
The Midlands side are currently riding an impressive seven-game unbeaten streak, and the 27-year-old has been a big part in their success at the heart of the back four.
A victory by two goals or more over Nottingham Forest on Friday night could even see them momentarily leap up into second in the table.
“There is definitely no reason why we shouldn’t [be up there in May], or else we wouldn’t be trying to fight for it,” Shotton told BBC WM Sport.
“That’s why we have brought players, attacking players, Che Adams has come along and has shown great sparkle.
“He is very sharp in training – and he has shown that on the field. You have got big Lukas Jutkiewicz, he is a handful.
“For me there is not a question we can definitely be up there by the end of the season.”
After going on loan from home town Stoke City to a number of different clubs over the years, Shotton appears to have finally found a stable side in Birmingham.
He will be hoping to make a big impact at the City Ground tomorrow night in what will be a huge test of their credentials this season.
All eyes at the club will then turn to their greatest rivals as they prepare to take on Aston Villa in two weeks’ time.
