Ryan Sessegnon has been quoted by the Evening Standard as saying that Tottenham maestro Rodrigo Bentancur has the “lowest” body fat percentage at the club – branding the Uruguayan star as a “tremendous footballer”.

Bentancur, 25, was rested on Saturday afternoon. The first time this season, he has not started when available. The 51-time Uruguay ace was missing from the 1-1 draw against West Ham with a head injury, earlier in the season.

But he has started every other game. With Spurs going 2-0 down, Bentancur entered the game after Sessegnon had pulled one back for Antonio Conte’s side. Ben Davies made it 2-2, and Bentancur got the winner to win 3-2.

It was Bentancur’s second goal in the space of two games. Saving a point against Sporting Lisbon with a superb header, his composed finish in injury time saw Spurs get back to winning ways. Sessegnon was very complimentary.

“He runs everywhere,” Sessegnon said, as per the Evening Standard. “He probably has the lowest body fat per cent of anyone at the club. He’s a tremendous footballer, a very good athlete and very important player for us.”

Sessegnon: Tottenham maestro Bentancur has lowest body fat at club

It is hardly surprising. Bentancur is a mainstay in the Spurs side. Simply looking at the ex-Juventus man physically, he looks incredibly slim. But his ability to work the ball in transition means he is hardly lacking in any strength.

While there has been enormous praise for his midfield teammate Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg this season, Bentancur has gone under the radar. But his importance has never wavered. Hence Conte’s usage of the South American ace.

But in the last few days, he has been the centre of plaudits from teammates, fans and pundits alike. It does always help when you score a goal or two – and he has done just that. Matthijs de Ligt said he is “underrated”, and it is true.
