England ran out 2-1 winners thanks to goals from Marcus Rashford and Wayne Rooney, whilst Eric Dier’s own goal handed Australia a glimmer of hope – but England claimed the win, and despite Australia being second best, one player earned great praise.
Midfielder Aaron Mooy dazzled in the Australia midfield, looking like their most dangerous player and overshadowing Celtic ace Tom Rogic in the process.

Mooy, 25, will be familiar to some fans in Britain having previously played for Bolton Wanderers and St Mirren, but is currently playing in his native Australia with Melbourne City. This summer though, Mooy could be heading back to Britain.
Reports from The Herald Sun earlier this month claimed that Rangers are looking to bring Mooy back to Scotland, though that was before the club had secured the signatures of both Jordan Rossiter and Joey Barton, two players who should be key in midfield for the Gers.

On Friday though, Mooy’s fellow Australian international Ryan McGowan – formerly of Hearts and Dundee United – took to Twitter to state that he thinks Mooy would be a very good signing for Rangers if they can pull it off, with other clubs no doubt keen too.
It will now be interesting to see whether Rangers do press ahead with a move for Mooy despite landing Barton and Rossiter, as Warburton would have an embarrassment of riches in midfield – and fans will want to see other areas of the team strengthened, despite Mooy’s undoubted quality.
