Ryan Mason has hailed Hugo Lloris, on the club’s official website, after winning his first game in charge of Tottenham Hotspur last night.
Tottenham may have been expecting to fly out of the blocks last night, following the news that Jose Mourinho had been sacked, but they actually begun slowly.
Spurs seemed lifeless in the first-half and could have gone behind in just the second minute if it wasn’t from Lloris.
The French goalkeeper produced a remarkable double stop, first to deny Danny Ings and then to stop Che Adams from scoring.
That save proved crucial as although Tottenham still fell behind, they always remained in touching distance.
After a half-time team-talk Spurs improved massively, and Mason said: “I’ll be honest I thought Southampton were excellent in the first 20 minutes.
“Hugo pulled off two outstanding saves. We found it difficult at times, but as the game went on we gained full control and I felt if there was going to be one winner it was going to be us.”
Lloris’s form actually dipped towards the back end of Jose Mourinho’s time in charge.
However, the Spurs goalkeeper has always been a fine shot-stopper and he proved that much again yesterday.
Tottenham went on to score goals through Gareth Bale and Heung-Min Son as they turned the game on its head and kept their slim hopes of claiming a top four spot around.
