Ryan Mason has sent an emotional parting message to Tottenham Hotspur on his personal Instagram account after leaving the club for Hull City.

Mason became Hull’s record signing when he completed a move for a reported fee of £13 million on Tuesday, bringing to an end his 18-year association with his boyhood club.

The 25-year-old had found his playing time reduced in recent times due to the emergence of young midfielders Dele Alli and Eric Dier.

Despite being named captain on occasion last term by Mauricio Pochettino it became public that the club were willing to sell Mason, and he has now completed his exit to join Hull.

Likely to always be highly regarded by the White Hart Lane support, Mason send an emotional farewell to the club and fans on Instagram after completing the move.

He wrote: “A massive thank you to everyone at Spurs the last 18 years, especially the coaches and players! From an 8-year-old boy to captaining the team was a dream come true for me!

“Also a huge thank you to all the fans who showed support in me, the club will always be special to me.”

Mason joins a large ex-Tottenham contingent at Hull, as he links up with former midfield teammates Tom Huddlestone and Jake Livermore and his old captain Michael Dawson.

The midfielder admitted to Hull’s official website that he had consulted with Dawson before settling on a move to Hull, with clubs such as Sunderland also thought to have been interested in signature.

He said: “I’m delighted to be here and I’m excited about what is a massive opportunity for me. It felt like the right time for me to move on after many good years at Tottenham. Once I found out that Hull were interested, my instinct told me it was the right thing to do.

“I had a couple of chats on the phone with ‘Daws’ and he told me all about how tightly-knit the group is. It’s great that everything got finalised so quickly and I can’t wait to meet the rest of the lads and get started now.”

Mason will likely be a regular starter for the Tigers this term and will look to bring energy and class to the centre of midfield.
