Ryan Mason praises the ‘incredible’ Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy

Tottenham Hotspur progressed through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Ryan Mason has claimed that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is ‘one of the best’ at his job despite receiving ‘criticism from ‘everyone in football’.

Former Spurs midfielder Mason was comparing Levy to other high profile figures across the EFL, with certain clubs such as Charlton, Bolton and Blackpool suffering difficult times.

During his tenure at White Hart Lane, Levy rarely speaks to the media, but he is a stern businessman behind the scenes in every aspect from transfers to building the long term vision of the football club.

Speaking on the Debate show on Sky Sports Premier League (05/03/2019 at 10:50 pm), Mason was full of praise for one of Tottenham’s key men and the manner in which he runs the club.

“The best at doing that [having a long term view] is Daniel Levy at Tottenham,” Mason told Sky Sports PL.”The amount of criticism he gets from everyone in football is incredible.

“But the job that he does for the football club is one of the best. You’ll get fans that will demand more, that’s part and parcel of the game, but in terms of Levy and the job he does as a chairman of the football club, the carer of the football club, making money for the football club, direction, the philosophy, it’s one of the best around.”

During their past two transfer windows, Spurs have opted against signing any new players as they prepare to move into their new stadium.

Despite the lack of investment in their squad, Mauricio Pochettino has done a fine job in guiding them into the quarter-finals of the Champions League after they beat German side Dortmund 4-0 on aggregate.

Added with that, they are also sitting third in the Premier League table, ahead of the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal, all of whom have invested a lot more into their squads in recent seasons.

This has just proven the remarkable job Pochettino is doing with his squad on the field of play, which is being backed up by Levy off the field of play and vice versa.
