Everton went back to winning ways when they beat Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday.
Ryan Mason has let rip at Everton’s squad by stating that ‘most of the back four have struggled’ and Jordan Pickford can ‘let you down at times’.
The former Premier League player stated that Marco Siva ‘needs a new spine’ when the transfer window re-opens in the summer, specifically a centre-half, central-midfielder and a striker.
On Sunday, the Toffees beat Champions League-chasing Chelsea 2-0 on home soil after a number of poor and indifferent performances in recent months.
Speaking to Final Word on talkSPORT (17/03/2019 at 7:20 pm), Mason shared his thoughts on Everton’s squad as he made it clear that his former manager, Silva needs more time to prove his worth.
“I think Keane has struggled this season,” Mason told talkSPORT. “I think most of the back four have struggled. I think Pickford’s been quite poor as well. I know he had a good game [against Chelsea]. But I think he has let you down at times.
“I think in the centre of the park, you need a whole new spine to that team. You need a centre-half in the next transfer window and a central midfielder. And you need to go and try to get yourself a striker that is going to get you 15-20 goals. Then you can judge Silva because it’s too unfair at the moment.”
Last summer, former Watford manager Silva replaced the sacked Sam Allardyce in the Goodison Park dugout as the club tried to get back to their best ways.
Richarlison was a standout signing, with Andre Gomes, Bernard and Yerry Mina also walking through the doors from other European clubs.
Despite the influx of new players, Silva has struggled to find consistency, both in the Premier League and during their time in the domestic cup competitions.
At this moment in time, the Merseyside club are sitting outside of the Premier League’s top 10 as they will be looking to end the season on a high.
