Tottenham have now slipped to three consecutive defeats in all competitions.
Ryan Mason believes Tottenham were punished for their wasted chances against Inter Milan, before Mauro Icardi’s stunning volley turned the game on its head on Tuesday night.
Spurs kicked off their Champions League group stage with a 2-1 away defeat at the San Siro, as they were stunned by a late comeback from the Italian giants.
After a fairly dull first-half, Mauricio Pochettino’s side came out with more intent in the second period and took a deserved lead through Christian Eriksen.
The North London club missed a number of chances in front of goal to extend their lead and were eventually made to pay late on.
Icardi equalised for Inter with a brilliant goal from outside of the box in the 85th minute, before Matias Vecino’s header in stoppage time snatched all three points for the hosts.
Ex-Spurs midfielder Mason claims that his former side have to be more ruthless in front of goal in the big games.
“Tough to take that one. Dominated the second half until the equaliser, have to take the chances to put the game to bed at the highest level. An outstanding finish from Icardi completely changed the game,” Mason wrote on his personal Twitter account.
Pochettino has now seen his time lose their last three games across all competitions and a bright start to the season has been turned on its head.
Spurs now have plenty of work to do in their Champions League group and host Barcelona in their next European fixture, while they travel to Brighton in the Premier League on Saturday.
