talkSPORT pundit Ryan Mason has stated that he would prefer Sheffield United to earn promotion to the Premier League ahead of Leeds.

The former Tottenham midfielder did admit though that the Elland Road fans ‘deserve’ promotion as he referred back to the number of supporters that used to back them when they were struggling in League One.

At this moment in time, Marcelo Bielsa’s side are sitting second in the Championship table, two points ahead of third-placed Sheffield United, who recorded a goalless draw against Sheffield Wednesday on Monday night.

Speaking on the Final Word to talkSPORT (03/03/2019 at 5:55 pm), Mason explained why he wants Chris Wilder’s side in the Premier League, but he did speak highly of Bielsa’s men.

“There is no doubt that they are a massive club,” Mason told talkSPORT. “I remember in League One, I remember playing there and I was on loan at Yeovil and they still had 28-30 thousand when they were in League One. For their fans they deserve it.

“I would like to see Sheffield United get promoted just because of the way they play. If I was to pick one of the two, I would pick them [Sheff Utd]. Look, Leeds are a massive club and if they are in the Premier League then they belong there.”

Norwich, Leeds and Sheffield United, who currently occupy the top three spots in the second tier, have arguably produced not just the most consistent, but the most attacking and entertaining brand of football in the division.

The Blades perhaps standout from the trio because they play three or five at the back, with their centre-backs overlapping out wide, along with their wingers and full-backs.

But there is no doubt that the Championship title race will go to the wire with a number of big games coming up in the next few weeks.

In 11 days time, with two fixtures sandwiched in between, Leeds will host their Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United in what is expected to be one of the most important matches of the season.
