Liverpool-owned Bristol City winger Ryan Kent recently spoke highly of Leeds United head coach Paul Heckingbottom.

Kent, currently on loan at City from Liverpool, played under Heckingbottom at Barnsley in the Championship last season.

The 21-year-old said that the 40-year-old, who recently left his role at Barnsley to take charge of Championship rivals Leeds, allowed him to express himself on the pitch.

“Yeah, he was a fantastic manager,” Kent told The Bristol Post about Heckingbottom. “That was probably my biggest season so far in terms of development. He really allowed me to go and express myself and I wish him all the best at Leeds.”

Music to Leeds United duo’s ears

Liverpool-owned Kent’s comments about Heckingbottom will be music to the ears of Leeds duo Samuel Saiz and Ezgjan Alioski.

Saiz has been arguably the best player for Leeds so far this season, and once the 27-year-old returns from suspension, he will make the Whites a much better team.

The Spaniard, who can operate as a forward or as an attacking midfielder, is a very creative footballer, and Kent’s comments suggest that new Leeds head coach Heckingbottom will allow him the freedom to do what he pleases in attack.

Perhaps Saiz will not have too much defensive responsibility, and that is only going to make him better in terms of creating chances for his teammates.

Alioski is not in great form at the moment, but the winger, too, could benefit if Heckingbottom allows him the freedom to weave his magic.

The 26-year-old Macedonia international will do a better job if he focuses on getting crosses in and creating chances for his teammates instead of tracking back all the time and helping out in defence.

For creative and attacking players such as Saiz and Alioski, it is important that they are allowed some leeway in defensive duties, and Kent’s comments suggest that they could get that under Heckingbottom.
