Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack has told the Daily Record that he thinks new boy Jon McLaughlin has been ‘excellent’ since arriving at Ibrox.
The Gers saw Wes Foderingham leave for Sheffield United this summer, and having loaned Robby McCrorie to Livingston, Steven Gerrard needed another goalkeeper.
Rangers ended up signing McLaughlin on a free transfer, luring him back to Scotland after his Sunderland contract expired.
The 32-year-old had a strong spell with Hearts before joining Sunderland in 2018, and he was one of League One’s top goalkeepers with the Black Cats.
McLaughlin was expected to serve as Allan McGregor’s backup, but an injury to the veteran has given McLaughlin a chance to shine.
He has yet to concede a league goal for Rangers this season in a superb start to the campaign, and he is now in contention to start for Scotland against Israel on Friday.
Now, Jack has branded McLaughlin ‘excellent’, praising him for being very professional both on and off the pitch, offering great value to the Rangers dressing room.

Jack added that he isn’t surprised to see McLaughlin playing so well, and believes Rangers now have two ‘top class’ goalkeepers to work with.
“Jon has been excellent. Greegsy had a knock and that is how Jon has got his chance and he has been excellent,” said Jack. “He is a great lad, a very good lad and he has come in and been very professional on and off the park. He does everything right and it is what you need in the dressing room. You need boys that can show that day in, day out the way they go about their job and their work.
“It is not just that side of it, it is obviously his talent as well because he is a very good goalkeeper. It is no surprise to me to see him come in and hit the ground running and do so well. You still have Greegsy at Rangers, who last year probably won us so many points by myself with the saves he made at crucial times. It is great for us at club level to have two top class goalkeepers,” he added.
