Steven Gerrard has plenty of work to do as finally takes to office at Ibrox, with his four-year Rangers contract beginning on Friday and the transfer window will be his main priority.

After already handing Mark Allen his blessing to complete the signings of Scott Arfield, Allan McGregor and Jamie Murphy on a permanent basis, Gerrard is expected to continue to add to his side.

It is likely to be just the tip of the iceberg and big-name players have been linked with a move to the club, including Gerrard’s former teammates Martin Skrtel, Lucas Leiva and Jermaine Defoe.

All on high wages, perhaps the most recent link to Hibernian midfielder Dylan McGeouch represents a more-likely deal to be concluded after the Scottish Sun claimed Gerrard is interested in landing the 25-year-old on a free.

McGeouch has starred for Neil Lennon’s Hibs and despite him being an ex-Celtic academy product, the Gers are intent on bringing him to Ibrox amid huge central midfield traffic at the club.

The likes of Jordan Rossiter, Graham Dorrans, Greg Docherty, Jason Holt, Andy Halliday, new signing Arfield and Ryan Jack are all vying for a place in the middle of the park under Gerrard.

But if the Gers do sign McGeouch, it is Scotland international Jack who may have to make way after failing to make an appearance in 2018 since suffering a long-term knee injury.

Signed from Aberdeen last summer on a free, Jack had shown in glimpses what he was capable of but an issue with discipline saw him sent off four times – two of which were overturned. Nontheless, he remains a liability.

If the Gers sign McGeouch, there is little chance of Jack resurrecting his career at Ibrox and he should seriously consider his future this summer with McGeouch likely to be way above him in the pecking order.
