Rangers new boy Ryan Jack has told The Scottish Sun that he grew up supporting the club, and admitted that Paul Gascoigne was one of his heroes.

Just 24 hours after Rangers confirmed the signing of Portuguese international defender Bruno Alves, the Gers were back in the transfer market again on Thursday afternoon.

Manager Pedro Caixinha has been charged with the task of rebuilding Rangers, and he has landed his second signing of the summer by bringing in midfielder Ryan Jack.

The Aberdeen star had come up through the ranks with his hometown club, racking up nearly 250 appearances in a Dons shirt whilst even captaining the club since 2015.

However, with Jack’s contract expiring this summer, the 25-year-old midfielder chose to leave Pittodrie on a free transfer, and he has completed a move to Rangers on a three-year contract.

Jack should be a key part of Caixinha’s midfield, and whilst his move has caused some controversy, with Aberdeen fans far from happy with his move, Jack has been discussing his delight.

Speaking to The Scottish Sun, Jack has revealed that he grew up supporting Rangers, with everybody on his mother’s side of his family supporting the Gers too, meaning Jack’s decision to leave Aberdeen for Ibrox is no great surprise.

Jack added that whilst he idolised Paul Scholes and Steven Gerrard, another of his heroes was Paul Gascoigne, who hit 39 goals in 104 games for Rangers – and he will hope to emulate his success a Ibrox.

“Standing in the tunnel it really hit home that I was a Rangers player,” said Jack. “I’m over the moon, I am delighted. I was a Rangers fan growing up, my mum’s side were all Rangers fans.”

“I probably idolised the likes of Paul Scholes and Steven Gerrard, but obviously Paul Gascoigne was a hero too It’s a huge honour for me and I can’t wait to get started,” he added.
