Glasgow Rangers’ record at Ibrox is much worse than their form away from home in the Scottish Premiership.

Ryan Jack has told Rangers’ official YouTube channel that the pressure of playing in front of 50,000 people at Ibrox may well be a factor in why Rangers’ home record is much worse than their away form this season, but admitted that it is difficult to explain what happened after they were beaten by St Johnstone on Saturday.

Graeme Murty’s men went into the clash against Tommy Wright’s side having just won four games in a row and would have undoubtedly been full of confidence after they had come from behind to win their previous two fixtures.

And it briefly appeared that they may be about to make it five wins in a row as Alfredo Morelos gave the Gers a fifth minute lead. But the game turned on its head, with Blair Alston equalising five minutes later before the visitors went on to score twice more in the second-half to secure the three points.

The defeat means that Rangers have won four and lost four of their 10 home games. However, with their away record reading seven wins in nine, Gers fans would certainly be forgiven for scratching their heads wondering why their side had been unable to replicate their form on their travels when they play at Ibrox.

And Jack admitted that it was difficult to explain, but did suggest that the pressure of the home games must certainly be a factor.

Rangers manager Graeme Murty is seen during the Scottish Cup Quarter final match between Rangers and Hamilton Academical at Ibrox Stadium on March 4, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

“There’s no doubt you’ve got the pressure of the home crowd,” he told Rangers’ official YouTube channel when asked why their home form was much more disappointing than their away record.

“There’s 50,000 at Ibrox expecting you to go out and expecting you to go and win 2, 3, 4-0, and at the very least, run about, put in tackles, do the basics, and as I say, we were just never really at the races.

“It’s frustrating because you sit and think after the game what is it? Why is everyone having an off day? Why are things not working? But I think it’s just getting back to training at the start of the week and having a look at the video, sitting down together and ironing out a few mistakes.”

Certainly, if Rangers are to get themselves back alongside Celtic at the summit of the Scottish Premiership, they are going to have to get back to making Ibrox a fortress, and that should also give them the momentum to make sure that their away form is just as impressive as it currently is.
