Liverpool’s summer signing Ryan Gravenberch admits Dominik Szoboszlai is the player who has surprised him the most at the Premier League giants with the Hungarian scoring a stunner against Leicester City in midweek.

After the former RB Leipzig playmaker threatened to send the Leicester net flying into the River Mersey on Wednesday night, ESPN asked a question on their official Twitter page; Is Dominik Szoboszlai Liverpool’s ‘best midfielder’ since the legendary Steven Gerrard?

Of course, it is more than a little early to come up with such conclusions. Szoboszlai is only eight games into his Liverpool career after all, and lest we forget the silverware accumulated by Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum, Fabinho and co during their time at Anfield.

But, still, the fact that some feel emboldened to ask questions such as this – with Szoboszlai still a relative newcomer to English football – is testament to the remarkable impact he has made both in and outside of Anfield.

Dominik Szoboszlai shines at Liverpool

Gravenberch, speaking to Reddit on behalf of Sky Sports, admits that Szoboszlai is the player who has surprised him the most since arriving in England. And the ex-Bayern Munich ace is unlikely to be the only one taken aback by a player already threatening to become the driving force behind a Premier League title charge.

“It’s Dom Szoboszlai, because of his shot,” Gravenberch admits. “You saw it (against Leicester). It’s crazy.

“Sometimes we shoot after training and it’s like ‘one, two, three’… they all go in. I think it’s Dom (who has surprised me the most) with his shot.”

Szoboszlai, a £60 million signing from the Red Bull Arena, already has two Liverpool goals. That Carabao Cup blockbuster against Leicester, meanwhile, was the very definition of a shot that ‘stays hit’. In fact, if the net wasn’t in the way, it would probably still be travelling, NASA mistaking it for a stray meteor.
