Tottenham dispatched Liverpool by four goals to one on Sunday at Wembley.
Ryan Giggs believes Tottenham’s comfortable 4-1 victory over Liverpool on Sunday was largely down to preparing themselves with a tough test against Real Madrid last week.
Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs went into the Premier League clash on Sunday after drawing 1-1 against the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Toni Kroos at the Santiago Bernabeu last Tuesday.
Just five days later, Spurs were tasked with another difficult game against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool but goals from Son Heung-Min, Dele Alli and a brace from Harry Kane overwhelmed the Reds.
Manchester United legend Giggs claimed on Sky Sports’ website in his Class of ’92 Diary that playing against Zinedine Zidane’s Real and getting a result would have given Spurs plenty of belief, but is still confident one of the Manchester sides will win the Premier League.
“The performance of the weekend had to be Tottenham’s 4-1 victory over Liverpool,” Giggs said. “Without a shadow of a doubt playing at the Bernabeu helped prepare them for that game.
“Once you get those sort of results you have an invaluable belief. Coming through one of the most daunting experiences in football certainly would have made it a lot easier to face Liverpool at Wembley.
“I’ll stick with going with one of the Manchester clubs for the Premier League but it is very, very close and a couple results between the top sides can turn that.”
The win against Klopp’s helpless Liverpool pushes Spurs into third place level with Manchester United and behind Manchester City, with five points separating third and second from first.
Pochettino will be hoping his side can continue their good form in a different format on Wednesday night, as Spurs play host to London rivals West Ham at Wembley in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
