Wales boss Ryan Giggs has told the Daily Mail that he thinks winger Daniel James has ‘really kicked on’ since his Leeds United move broke down.

James, 21, enjoyed a superb season with Swansea City, notching six goals and seven assists as he developed rapidly under Graham Potter.

The Welsh international has dazzled defenders with his blistering pace, and having ended the season in style for club and country, transfer rumours continue to surround the ex-Hull City youngster.

The Daily Mail recently reported that Manchester United are closing in on a deal for James, beating a host of Premier League clubs to a £15million move.

It’s been quite the year for James, as he famously saw a move to Leeds United fall through in January, despite the deal being on the verge of completion.

As reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds had a deal agreed for James and were just waiting for the move to be rubber-stamped, but Swansea failed to push the deal through, meaning James had to leave Elland Road despite having his medical.

Now, Wales boss Giggs has praised James for his improvement, kicking on in terms of quality and mentally, as seeing such an important move collapse could have derailed him.

“You don’t need to speak to me to see the quality Dan has, especially since the turn of the year,” said Giggs. “The break down of Leeds transfer could have affected him but since then he’s really kicked on,” he added.

James will now seemingly join Leeds’ huge rivals in Manchester United, and staff at Elland Road will be gutted about his January move falling through given how much his value has already shot up.
