13-time Premier League winner Ryan Giggs is optimistic that Tottenham Hotspur have most of the foundations in place to challenge for the title.

Ryan Giggs has suggested to Sky Sports that Tottenham have most of the foundations in place to make another challenge for the Premier League title this season – but he added that they should still look to be active during the remaining weeks of the transfer window.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men have certainly established themselves as key players in the title race over the last two seasons, proving to be the last team standing between the eventual title-winners and the trophy on both occasions.

They registered their best Premier League finish last season, finishing second to Chelsea. But it appears that many are concerned about their chances of replicating that performance once again this term due to how the summer has played out.

Spurs are the only top flight side not to make any additions to their senior squad during this window, while all those around them appear to have spent heavily.

Nevertheless, while Giggs believes that Manchester City are the team to catch, he suggested that Spurs should not be too far away, adding that while he thinks they need to make a couple of signings, they do not need to bolster their strongest side.

“Tottenham have a really exciting squad and a great manager in Mauricio Pochettino, but everybody is asking whether they can continue to match sides without signings,” he told Sky Sports.

“I think they need a couple, not to improve their starting line-up but to make the squad better, while they’ve also got the Wembley factor, so they really need to get off to a good start.”

What may perhaps work in Spurs’ favour in terms of helping them get off to a fast start is that as they have not made any signings, their team will not need the time to gel that some of their rivals will probably need following the vast number of signings many have made.

And as they showed at the end of last season especially – when they won 13 out of league 15 games – if they can build some momentum then they surely have every chance of putting a run together that makes them the team to catch.
