Ryan Giggs told Stadium Astro that reported Leeds United target Dan James is ‘frustrated’ at Manchester United because of his lack of game time.

The Telegraph claimed in December that Leeds would make a move for James if Manchester United were able to obtain a work permit for Amad Diallo.

Well, Diallo is signed up, with work permit in hand and is gracing the Carrington turf, so it will be interesting to see if Leeds do make their move now.

But Giggs, who manages James on the international stage, shared his thoughts on his lack of game time and why Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would perhaps be unwilling to let him go.

“We are in unknown territory,” said Giggs. “Where you don’t have a lot of time. A lot of games squeezed into a short space of time.

“So, I think Ole would take the safe option and keep as many quality players in the club as he can.

“Yes, it would be frustrating. I know that Dan is frustrated. Just like any other player who isn’t getting regular football. But when you are at a big club like Man United when you get the chance take it.”

Man United snapped up James’ services during the summer of 2019 for £15 million [BBC Sport], but it could have been a lot different.

It was well-documented that Leeds wanted to secure James’ services when they were in the Championship, and even though he held up a Leeds shirt, the move fell through.

Given that James is now plying his trade at Old Trafford, it will be interesting to see if Leeds fans would accept the player now representing a rival club.
