Steven Gerrard’s Glasgow Rangers reportedly want Ryan Gauld at Ibrox, with Tottenham Hotspur and Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool also claimed to be interested.

Last month, TEAMtalk claimed that Steven Gerrard’s Glasgow Rangers want to bring Ryan Gauld to Ibrox. The report also credited Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Arsenal with interest in the Sporting Lisbon attacking midfielder.
Gauld is a very talented and promising young attacking midfielder, and although the former Scotland Under-21 international’s progress at Sporting has been stunted, reported interest from Rangers, Tottenham, Liverpool and Arsenal does not come as a surprise, given his obvious talent and the performances he produced for Dundee United before his move to the Portuguese giants in 2014 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £3 million.

Stevie Campbell knows Gauld well, with the Brechin City coach having worked with the 22-year-old at Dundee United’s youth set-up and has stayed in touch with the Scottish youngster, and the former mentor has suggested that attacking midfielder will stay at Sporting for the 2018-19 campaign.

“I’m delighted for Gauldy,” Campbell told The Sunday Post. “He’s one I’ve stayed in touch with, and I believe he’s determined to make the most of the chance.
“The circumstances at the club are difficult. The manager who has just been sacked had only been there for nine days.
“But Ryan has had to be patient for a long time now, and I reckon he’ll be happy to wait and see what happens next.”

Smart decision
Gauld is a talented attacking midfielder, and given that he is only 22 years of age, the Scottish youngster can only improve in the coming years.
It would make sense for the former Dundee United youngster to remain at Sporting for next season, as he has a very good chance of breaking into the first team and establishing himself as a key player for the side.
Joining Rangers, Tottenham, Liverpool or Arsenal would not allow Gauld to play week in and week out that he needs at this stage of his career.
