Ryan Gauld should snub PL move for potential Rangers switch

Glasgow Rangers are reportedly amongst the clubs interested in signing Ryan Gauld, and he should choose the chance to move to Ibrox.

According to a recent report from TEAMtalk, Rangers are among the group of sides interested in signing Ryan Gauld this summer, while Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are keen on rivalling the Gers for his signature.

Gauld is currently on Sporting’s books in Portugal, but TEAMtalk reports that he may be available and that Rangers, Spurs and Arsenal are among those keen on handing him a return to the UK.

The 22-year-old therefore, may have some extremely exciting opportunities put in front of him this summer, but perhaps it should be a move to Ibrox that proves his preference rather than the chance to join Mauricio Pochettino’s men.

Gauld appears to have lost his way somewhat during his time at Sporting. He has represented the first-team just five times since leaving Dundee United, either spending much of his time in the B side or out on loan.

He is arguably at the stage of his career where regular first-team football at a club where he is settled probably needs to be the priority when he considers his next move, and the Gers are clearly the team that can offer the clearest path to the first-team.

Tottenham boast an incredible amount of attacking depth, and it seems highly possible that if he joined Spurs, he would either be relying on chances in the cup competitions when the team looks drastically different or will be going out on loan again.

At Ibrox, he still needs to be able to push ahead of some impressive players if he hopes to break into Steven Gerrard’s side, but the challenge is arguably nowhere near as great and he would be returning to a league that he knows well.

And by linking up with Gerrard and Gary McAllister, the starlet would be learning from two of the most naturally gifted midfielders of the last 30 years.

Gauld is seemingly at a crossroads in his career where one wrong turn could take him down the road that has been trodden by a number of players who have failed to live up to wonderkid billing.

Moving to Spurs or Arsenal may prove inspired if either Pochettino or Unai Emery are particularly excited about his potential, but on paper, a move to Rangers seems to be the route that gives him the best chance of becoming the player that so many had such high hopes for a few years back.
