Glasgow Rangers are hoping to bring in both Bruno Alves and Fabio Cardoso to Ibrox this summer.
Scotland’s Ryan Gauld (R) has offered his assessment of Rangers target Fabio Cardoso
Ryan Gauld has suggested that former teammate Fabio Cardoso has all the attributes required to thrive at Rangers and suggested that a potential partnership with another Gers target Bruno Alves could be an excellent one, Herald Scotland reports.
According to Herald Scotland, the Gers are closing in on a deal that would see Alves released from his contract with Cagliari and free to move to Ibrox.
Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha is looking to sign two new centre-backs
And Pedro Caixinha hopes that the 35-year-old is not the only centre-back he signs this summer, with Herald Scotland reporting that a move for Cardoso is also on his radar.
And Gauld – who played alongside Cardoso during his loan spell at Vitoria Setubal earlier this past season – has backed the 23-year-old to be a success if he does end up at Rangers.

“He’s a very good defender. He played most of the games in the six months I was there. First and foremost, he is a good defender – he knows how to defend. After that he is very comfortable on the ball,” he said, as reported by Herald Scotland.
“He is being linked with Rangers and Rangers are a team that’s going to want possession all the time and build from the back. That’s one of his strong points I would say. I think he’s got all the attributes to fit in.
“I think it would definitely benefit him if he had Bruno Alves beside him. It would benefit anyone to play beside him. He has been around his fair share of clubs and also played regularly at international level. If Rangers can get both of them I think it would be a very good partnership.”
Bruno Alves is closing in on a move to Rangers
Unfortunately for Rangers, it appears that they face an uphill battle trying to bring Cardoso to the club with the Daily Record suggesting that his connections with Jorge Mendes make a move to Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers much more likely.
But if Caixinha rates Cardoso as highly as Gauld does – which must be the case – then he will surely be urging the board to do everything they can to make a deal happen.
