The West Ham man knows the Villa Park side well, having been on the winning side three times against the Villans during his career.
Aston Villa have been unlucky with several decisions that have gone against them in the Premier League this season and could easily have been in the upper reaches of the table going into the international break, according to West Ham United full-back Ryan Fredericks (Hammers website).
Dean Smith’s charges currently sit 18th in the table after picking up three points in the 2-0 win over Everton but losing their three other fixtures so far, including the very controversial 1-0 defeat at Crystal Palace in which a late equaliser was ruled out.
With the international break now a memory, Villa will be eager to put into practise what they’ve been working on, and seek to get a result from a second game this term, as they prepare to host West Ham at Villa Park on Monday night.
Fredericks has notable experience against the Villans, getting the better of his clashes with the West Midlands side throughout his career, winning three and losing just one of the four matches he has played against them, including the 2018 Championship playoff final, when he was at Fulham (West Ham website).
“I’ve got very good memories of that game,” he told the West Ham website. “I had a few good games against them for Fulham, even before the game when we got promoted! Obviously, they’ve got a much-changed team now and have brought in some quality players to add to the very good players they already had, so it’s going to be another tough game against them.
“They had a good team [last season] and have brought in ten or 12 players, so we’re expecting a tough game. They’ve been unlucky with a few decisions that have gone against them, otherwise they’d have got a few more points and be up there with us and the other teams towards the top of the table.”
