Ryan Fraser has told Newcastle’s official website that Kieran Trippier has had an enormous impact since he arrived at the club from Atletico Madrid in January. Trippier has been in stunning form for the Toon, at right-back.

Trippier, 31, scored a wonderful free-kick on Tuesday night as Newcastle secured back-to-back wins with a 3-1 victory over Everton. It came after a Mason Holgate own goal, and winger Fraser netting from close range.

The England defender was the club’s first signing under new ownership, and the first of five in the January window. Bruno Guimaraes, Matt Targett, Dan Burn and Chris Wood followed – perhaps tempted by Trippier’s return.

Speaking to the Toon’s official website after his goal and the win over Everton, Scotland winger Fraser shared just how important Trippier has been both on and off the pitch since his arrival at Newcastle in January.

“Since he’s come to the club, with me, everyone, he has been unbelievable. Not just on the pitch, his performances have been top, top top. But off the pitch, I can’t praise him any higher.

“Small things, getting the lads morale up. Making everyone better. On the right, I feel like I’m playing with a monster beside me. He’s been brilliant,” Fraser said, when asked about his relationship on the right with Trippier.

Fraser on Trippier: Newcastle star’s leadership crucial to survival

Newcastle climbed out of the relegation zone on Tuesday night. A sentence that not many will have expected during the first half of the season – but the Toon seem on the way up. The new owners have done well in January.

While they have added quality in their new five signings, they have also really enthused Toon supporters. The owners and the fans have bonded, but the signing of Trippier is just as important.

The England defender has enormous experience, a winning mentality that is going to play a crucial part in avoiding the drop. Newcastle have a good run of games next – Villa, West Ham, Brighton and Brentford. Exciting times.
