Liverpool were linked with Ryan Fraser over the summer.
Liverpool have two outstanding wingers in Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, but Jurgen Klopp may still have decisions to make in that area of the pitch next summer.
The Reds have Harry Wilson out on loan at Bournemouth, meaning he could return for a first-team role next season, whilst Xherdan Shaqiri’s future is unclear.
Signing another winger to support Mane and Salah should be a priority for Liverpool, and Ryan Fraser looked like being the ideal target before the start of the season.
The Bournemouth star is out of contract at the end of the season, and racked up impressive numbers last season; seven goals, 14 assists and a huge 93 key passes.
Signing Fraser for free next summer appeared perfect, with the Daily Mail claiming that Liverpool were keen to lure the Scot to Anfield.
However, the 25-year-old has notched just one goal and one assist this season, looking like an absolute shadow of the player that impressed so much last term.
That means Liverpool now have a decision to make with Fraser, as a move that looked to be so ideal – like when Klopp signed Joel Matip for free in 2016 – now be in some doubt.
Liverpool should keep tracking Fraser’s form, as if he can recapture some of last season’s form, he can be one of the bargains of the summer for any club.
Fraser’s ability to play on the left or the right flank is very appealing, whilst his work rate and energy should fit nicely into Klopp’s style of play; more so than Shaqiri at least.
The reality is though that Fraser has a big opportunity to make himself an in-demand free agent, and right now, he’s passing up that chance with some underwhelming performances.
A golden chance to earn a move to Anfield could be passing Fraser by, and even if he would be available for free, Liverpool will have to look elsewhere if he doesn’t improve soon.
