Leeds United have confirmed this week that they have signed Ryan Edmondson from York City.

Leeds gave their fans something to smile about following the end of the international break this week when they announced that they had signed 16-year-old striker Ryan Edmondson from York City.
Edmondson only made his senior debut at Bootham Crescent earlier this season, and, of course, given his age, there is an element of risk surrounding the deal as he will need to develop his game significantly in the coming years if he hopes to make the grade at Elland Road.

But perhaps the length of the contract that he has signed with the Championship side just highlights how highly Leeds rate Edmondson and how confident they are that he will realise his potential.
According to the club’s official website, Edmondson has signed a contract that is set to run until the summer of 2020, and that is arguably a statement in itself.

It could certainly be suggested that handing the forward a deal until 2019, or even 2018, would have been reasonable and would have given Leeds more than enough time to form an opinion on the starlet.
So giving him a deal until 2020 just suggests that Leeds are more than confident that the teenager will vindicate the club’s decision to sign him and prove that he can make an impact for the club he has always supported.
