Following the news that Leeds United have added 16-year-old Ryan Edmondson to their academy side, it seems clear that the Whites are not standing still when it comes to their team of the future and, along with two other young forwards, the former York City player could have a very bright future at Elland Road.

Leeds have one of the most promising young academy talents in the game right now in the form of Jack Clarke and, with Kun Temenuzhkov arriving in the summer, it is clear that in a few years the Whites could have a strike-force the envy of many.

At 16 and 17, the trio have a long way to go and will continue their development with Leeds’ under-18s before getting chances with the under-23s. But whatever you think of the first-team’s significant squad transformation, the academy is also getting a face lift.

Clarke is an outstanding talent and former Barcelona sensation Temenuzhkov is tipped to go all the way and, having already made his first-team debut at York prior to his dream switch, Leeds supporter Edmondson will be hoping to keep up with his fellow young forwards.

It may be a while before Leeds reap the rewards of their long-term investments, but it is good to look ahead to a bright future at a club that has struggled far more than it should in recent years.

The challenge to be the best of an exciting bunch could get the best of of Edmondson, who will know the challenge has only just begun.
