Leeds United striker Ryan Edmondson is turning heads.
With the first international break of the season upon us, clubs are seeing their players feature all over the world – and Leeds United are no different.
Mateusz Klich featured for Poland in a 2-0 defeat in Slovenia, Ezgjan Alioski played for North Macedonia in a 4-1 defeat to Austria, and Eddie Nketiah was in the goals again for England Under-21’s.
Another player in action was striker Ryan Edmondson, as he made his debut for England Under-19’s against Greece on Thursday.
Edmondson wore the number nine shirt and not only got himself on the scoresheet, but also picked up an assist too, enjoying a dream debut.
The 18-year-old has already made a couple of Championship appearances, but after making waves with the Leeds youth ranks, he’s now shown his quality in an England shirt.
Fans were impressed with the performance, as seen below, but there have been some differing verdicts on the next step for the former York City striker.
Some feel that Edmondson should be given a shot in the Leeds first team ahead of Patrick Bamford, which seems incredibly unlikely after just 35 minutes of Championship action this season.
He’s definitely a talent, but Bamford is a proven Championship striker, and whilst he may not be everyone’s cup of tea, he will score goals for Leeds this season.
Others think that Edmondson needs to go out on loan and play first-team football, with some even fearing that he will move on somewhere else for playing time.
A loan move to a League One side could be ideal for the teenager, giving him a consistent taste of men’s football before coming back to Elland Road next summer a better player, when Nketiah’s loan stay ends.
Edmondson is no doubt attracting interest from other clubs, and the fear will be there after seeing fellow striker Sam Dalby leave Elland Road for a move to the Premier League with Watford, but the focus should be on a loan move for now.
