Leeds United youngster Ryan Edmondson scored this week for England’s under-19 side.

It was an ideal way to mark his debut at this level, and a perfect reminder to Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa.

Despite being tipped by fans for success this season following a pre-season hat-trick, Edmondson has not yet had a look in for the Whites.

There is a chance this could change, if Marcelo Bielsa makes a proposed tactical switch to play with two strikers.

Eddie Nketiah and Patrick Bamford have both made compelling cases to lead the line for Leeds, and Bielsa has to work out a way to get both into his starting XI.

Marcelo Bielsa told Leeds Live: “According to the opponent and what they are doing, we may go with two strikers. They mix well. One is right-footed and the other left. Down the sides. Can play one in front and one in behind. They can make the link and make movements.”

That’s all well and good, but it does mean Leeds will be without a striker on the bench, should they be looking to change the game.

This is where Edmondson can come in, and he certainly is a different style to both forwards. He is a physical player who is a potential game changer for the Whites from the bench.

Tyler Roberts’ return from injury could see him beat Edmondson to a place on the bench, but there is still a greater chance of the youngster being involve if Leeds go with two up top.

Leeds’ last Championship game was a 1-0 home defeat, in which they had more than 20 shots at goal but failed to find the net.

Having more strike options is essential, and Edmondson’s goal for England’s under-19 side was further illustration of his credentials.
