Ryan Edmondson has reflected on the ‘absolutely surreal’ feeling of helping Leeds United’s youth side to the Professional Development League North title.
Carlos Corberan’s side beat their Colchester United equivalents 2-0 on Monday to win the trophy.
And 17-year-old Leeds striker Edmondson, who joined from York City in 2017 was among the heroes, scoring twice for the Whites.
He told LUTV: “It’s absolutely surreal. Coming from a lower-league club, from around this area, has been amazing. I never expected of it myself to thrive. To be able to score goals for the club and help the lads to the league title, it’s amazing.”
It must be noted that United did have the luxury of naming a number of first-team players in the first XI, with Izzy Brown and Jack Clarke among the participants.
Edmondson is having an excellent season under Corberan and you wonder whether he could get senior chances under Marcelo Bielsa before the season finishes.
With Kemar Roofe out, Patrick Bamford is Leeds’ only fit striker at the moment, with Tyler Roberts being used in a playmaker role.
He has already had a taste of Championship football this season, but hasn’t appeared for the seniors since September.
