Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is going to speak to Ryan Christie about a new contract this week, the midfielder’s father has told The Scottish Sun.

Christie moved to Celtic from Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the summer of 2015 and earns £4000 per week as salary, according to The Daily Star.

According to The Scottish Sun, the 23-year-old midfielder is out of contract at the Glasgow giants next summer.

The youngster’s father, Charlie Christie, has revealed that there have been talks over a new contract, and that Celtic manager Rodgers will speak to the midfielder this week.

The 52-year-old has also revealed that other clubs are interested in the 23-year-old former Inverness star.

Charlie Christie told The Scottish Sun: “The talks about a new contract have been positive. All things being well, it will be done soon.

“I think the manager is going to speak to Ryan one-to-one this week. Ryan’s surrounded by top quality players. He loves it at Celtic.”

“Other clubs are interested — but Celtic are his first choice, no question,” added Charlie Christie.

New contract

Christie is playing well for Celtic at the moment, and it would make sense for the Glasgow giants to hand the 23-year-old a new contract.

The midfielder is only 23 years of age, and the Scotland international can only improve and develop in the coming years.

Moreover, tying down Christie to a new contract will mean that Celtic will not lose the midfielder on a free next summer when his current deal runs out.
