Christie starred for Celtic as they beat Hearts at Hampden Park.
Ryan Christie has been quoted by the Scottish Herald as saying that he is desperate to continue working hard at Celtic, despite his contract set to expire at the end of the season.
The 23-year-old starred for Celtic on Sunday afternoon, with the former Aberdeen loanee coming off the bench at half-time to score an excellent left-footed effort and create Celtic’s two other goals in the 3-0 win.
Loaned to Aberdeen last season, Christie rejoined Celtic this summer but has been made to wait for first-team opportunities, managing only two starts all season.
Brendan Rodgers told reporters that the club are in talks with Christie’s agent over a potential new deal, with his current contract expiring at the end of the season. Now, Christie has discussed his future.
“He was pleased [Rodgers]. I’ve just been trying to get that goal and hopefully I can push on from here,” Christie said. “It’s what I’m looking to do, to make an impact when I get my chance.
“Looking forward, I’ve come to the realisation that I just need to take it game by game and do as well as I can every time I get a chance and see where it takes me. I still feel I’ve got plenty of impact to make and that’s what I’m looking to do.”
Christie was linked with a move away from Celtic in the summer, with the likes of Jack Ross’ Sunderland sniffing while Aberdeen and Barnsley were also keen.
Now a full fledged Scotland international, Christie will have to continue churning out performances like he did on Sunday if he is to win a contract.
