The Hoops take on fellow Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden this weekend.

Ryan Christie of Celtic celebrates after scoring his team's first goal during the Betfred Cup Final between Celtic and Aberdeen at Hampden Park on December 2, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Celtic ace Ryan Christie has given his thoughts ahead of the Scottish Premiership leaders’ upcoming Scottish Cup semi-final meeting with Aberdeen.

The two sides lock horns at Hampden Park on Sunday looking to reach next month’s final, with the winner of the encounter facing either Hearts or Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the showpiece.

Celtic, who are on course for the treble treble, have faced the Dons four times this season – three times in the Scottish Premiership, winning twice and drawing once, and also triumphing in the Scottish League Cup final in December.

The most notable of those games was the 4-3 win at Pittodrie on Boxing Day, an exhilarating encounter which saw five goals in the last 15 minutes after being poised at 1-1 from the 24th minute onward.

Christie admitted that the game just after Christmas was one of his favourites this term, admitting his side had to dig deep, before moving on to some finer details of how all the preparation before the game cannot be adhered to too ridigly.

Ryan Christie of Celtic takes on Graeme Shinnie of Aberdeen during the Betfred Cup Final between Celtic and Aberdeen at Hampden Park on December 2, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

“You do your planning and tactics as much as you can in the lead-up to the game, but sometimes you’ve just got to feel it out during the first 5-10 minutes and adapt your game as you go,” he is quoted by the official Celtic website as saying.

“That’s something which is maybe overlooked from the outside, we need to be able to do that ourselves. The gaffer obviously helps that process from the touchline, but we also need to have that feel on the park, and change our tactics or structure or both to overcome whatever the opposition is doing.”

When the sides last met at Hampden, it was Christie’s solitary goal that clinched the Hoops’ seventh consecutive domestic trophy.
