Taking a closer look at the Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur full-backs ahead of their weekend encounter.

This weekend Southampton welcome Tottenham Hotspur to St Mary’s in a key clash for both sides
It will be the first time Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino returns to his former club since his summer departure, with Ronald Koeman now working wonders in the Saints hot-seat.
Southampton are currently seventh in the Premier League table while Tottenham are one point and one place ahead of them.
A top-four finish may still be the dream, but the likelihood is that both these sides are more likely to be fighting for a Europa League spot – provided they want one of course!
In the build-up to the clash, we have taken a closer look at the two sides’ respective left-backs, with Tottenham’s Danny Rose outperforming Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand in a number of key areas in the league this season.
| Passing Accuracy | Goals | Goal Assists | Key passes per game | Dribbles per game | Tackles won per game | Duels won per game | Interceptions won per game | Mins Played | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ryan Bertrand | 80% | 2 | 2 | 0.79 | 1.41 | 1.14 | 4.69 | 1.93 | 2,605 |
| Danny Rose | 79% | 2 | 4 | 0.96 | 1.46 | 2.54 | 6.54 | 2.12 | 2,192 |
Bertrand comes out on top in terms of passing accuracy but that aside the Tottenham player has a better average for all the other areas listed above.
Rose has set up twice as many goals as his Southampton counterpart in the league this season, while he also averages considerably more duels per appearance, along with more tackles, interceptions, dribbles and key passes.
Who has the last laugh on Saturday remains to be seen, but whoever wins will take another big step towards potential European qualification.
