Liverpool suffered a 2-0 loss to Red Star Belgrade on Tuesday night.

Ruud Gullit has hammered Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum on BeIN Sports by suggesting the Dutchman offers very little to Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Liverpool suffered a shock 2-0 defeat against Red Star Belgrade on Tuesday night in Serbia, as Milan Pavkov scored a quick-fire brace in the first half. The Reds dominated, but could not find their way past the Red Star defence.
Wijnaldum, 27, played the entire 90 minutes of Liverpool’s 2-0 defeat, but offered very little going forward or indeed in defence. Jurgen Klopp’s side had chances through the likes of Sadio Mane and Mo Salah, but could not convert them.
Former Chelsea and Newcastle manager Gullit was very unimpressed with former Toon midfielder Wijnaldum, claiming he does not do enough in attack or defence, suggesting he does not really help Liverpool.
“He is a midfielder, but what kind?” Gullit said. “It is very strange because I think he is a good football player, but he does not provide you with goals, no assists. But he’s not a holding midfielder.
“So he’s just a midfielder that just helps the midfield, but he’s not specialised in something. I think Klopp wanted to make him a holding midfielder when [Jordan] Henderson was injured. But he just gets on the wrong side of play.”

In 107 appearances for Liverpool, Wijnaldum has scored just nine goals and created 16 assists. In 15 appearances this season, he has managed only one goal and one assist.
He remains an important part of Klopp’s side, with the German boss continually picking him. His long-term future seems to be at Anfield too, with three years remaining on his £90,000-a-week contract (Spotrac).
Champions League Group C remains very tight, with Liverpool sitting in second on six points. Napoli are top on goal difference, while PSG have five and Red Star have four.
