Speaking on the Premier League’s YouTube channel, Martin Odegaard has given his verdict on David Luiz at Arsenal.
The midfielder hailed Luiz as a great defender, but he says that the Brazilian’s positive exterior is nothing more than a façade, claiming that he’s ruthless when he steps onto the pitch.
“Defending, I will say our player David Luiz. When you see him in training every day, he’s a great person and a great leader in the team, and I think he’s important for us,” Odegaard said.
“He’s a great guy, he’s happy, smiling and making jokes, but when you step onto the pitch he just changes mentality to being completely focused on the game and being ruthless. He’s not a nice guy anymore you know when he’s on the field.”

We always see Luiz smiling, so it’s a bit surprising to hear this.
However, you don’t become a serial winner unless you have that ruthless and nasty edge about you, and Luiz’s trophy cabinet speaks for itself.
The defender has won pretty much all there is to win at club level, and while you have to be talented to do that, you also need an elite mentality, and that’s seemingly what Luiz has.
