Russell Slade compares Rangers star Joe Aribo to Harry Kane

Rangers are coasting towards the Scottish Premiership title, and there are a number of players who have played key roles in the success.

James Tavernier and Connor Goldson have been mainstays, Borna Barisic and Steven Davis have been vital and Ryan Kent has once again caused mayhem with Alfredo Morelos in attack.

Joe Aribo is a player who has really earned huge praise for his performances of late, and he certainly deserves it.

The Nigerian international has picked up two goals and two assists in his last six league games, whilst he also scored in the first leg of the Europa League clash with Royal Antwerp.

Whether deployed as an attack-minded midfielder or in from the right flank, Aribo continues to make a huge impact for Steven Gerrard.

Now worth much, much more than the £300,000 compensation Rangers paid in 2019, Aribo looks set to be a star for the Gers over the coming years.

Now, Aribo is being praised by his former Charlton Athletic boss Russell Slade, who has told The Scottish Sun that he thinks Aribo is getting ‘better all the time’.

Slade also notes that Aribo is ‘in the same bracket’ as Harry Kane, believing that he had ‘something different’ as a kid, with Slade well-placed to know having coached both Aribo and Kane.

“Sometimes young players can pleasantly surprise you by what they go on to achieve in their career,” said Slade. “But I would like to think I have an eye for a player having worked in the game all these years. And when I saw Joe, I just knew that he would go on and make something of himself because he had everything.”

“There were two youth players who were outstanding when I took over at Charlton and that’s why I wanted them training with us and involved with the first team. The two were Konsa, who is at Aston Villa, and Joe Aribo. They looked so promising and I was really impressed when I first caught a glimpse of them at the club. I gave Harry Kane his debut at 17 when he was on loan at Leyton Orient and Konsa and Aribo were in the same bracket for me. They just had something different about them.”

“I’ve watched him quite a bit for Rangers and he is getting better all the time. And he has so much still in front of him and so much still to achieve,” he added.
