Glasgow Rangers loanee Russell Martin is hoping to secure a long-term Ibrox stay.

The 32-year-old is one of a number of players who Graeme Murty has brought in on loan this month, with Sean Goss, Jamie Murphy and Jason Cummings also all arriving on a temporary basis.

The loan deals may make some fans slightly wary about whether the foundations are being put in place to ensure that Rangers have a stronger team in the long-term, but Martin has somewhat alleviated some of those concerns by insisting that he would love to earn himself a permanent move from Norwich City.

“We all have a long-term plan. Ideally I’ll do well enough to make Rangers say they want to keep me – and give Norwich a decision to make in the summer.
“That’s why my full focus is on giving it everything I’ve got.”
With Martin edging slightly towards the end of his career, some supporters may have been worried regarding whether he would have the kind of motivation he would need to make a success of his loan spell.
However, the defender targeting a permanent switch means that he definitely has something to prove during the next few months and that may help the Scotland international make the most of his loan spell as he will want his performances to make Murty’s mind up for him.
