Graeme Murty’s Glasgow Rangers won against Heart of Midlothian at Ibrox at the weekend, with Norwich City-owned Russell Martin scoring once.
Graeme Murty’s side maintained their good run of form last Saturday afternoon, as the Gers got the better of Hearts 2-0 at Ibrox.
Jamie Murphy put Rangers in the lead in the 41st minute, and Martin added the second on 88 minutes.
Martin, who joined the Gers on loan from Norwich City in the Championship in England in the January transfer window, has praised the way his side defended against Hearts.
“I thought we defended really well as a team and we were dominant,” Martin told Rangers’ official website.
“We kept the ball in their half most of the game and I just felt it was a much more controlled performance than last week.”
“It’s about organising early – when we’re on the ball, it’s quite easy to get sucked into watching and admiring some of the attacking play,” added Martin.
“It’s about staying switched on and getting Dec and Tav and Batesey and the midfielders in front of us to make sure if the ball does come back out, we recycle it as quickly as possible and keep it in their half.”
Encouraging
Rangers have been winning matches for a while now, although they have also been conceding goals of late.
Keeping a clean sheet against Hearts was very encouraging, and Murty’s side now have to show the same determination not to concede in their upcoming matches.
There is still a chance that Rangers could challenge Old Firm rivals Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title this season.
