Russell Crowe become the subject of pleas from Leeds fans once again.
It is not over dramatic to suggest Leeds United are a club approaching turmoil – if they are not already at that point.
A chaotic day on Monday October 19th saw head coach Uwe Rosler sacked after a third successive loss, and replaced with former Rotherham boss Steve Evans.
To top it off owner Massimo Cellino was then suspended by the Football League until the end of the season, as confirmed by the FL’s official website.
This led to calls from Leeds fans via social media to reach out to actor Russell Crowe, who was reported by The Mail earlier this year to be keen on taking over the club he supports.
Crowe is the successful owner of Australian Rules Football team the South Sydney Rabbitohs, and fed up supporters made an attempt to re-engage him after the day’s controversial events.
One comment seemed to irk the actor, who is currently in London for work commitments.
Crowe responded to this tweet, denying his interest was anything to do with seeking publicity.
He was of the opinion he has made his point, and does not wish to drag the matter up again for the time being.
So to take a look back at his last comments, Crowe told The BBC in August that he was not ready to take up the challenge, stating personal reasons.
“Economics tell the folks in my organisation we could smash this, but, I know the personal toll it takes.
“Without my actual hands on the wheel in Leeds I can’t guarantee investors a return. I’ve loved Leeds all my life. I will always.
“I will not steal any more of my children’s time – it’s that simple.”
Crowe’s mind may be made up, and he has clarified he is unwilling to reconsider – but the fact he keeps having to address the possibility only underlines the dissatisfaction Leeds fans have with current owner Massimo Cellino.
