Aston Villa striker Rushian Hepburn-Murphy could benefit from Scott Hogan’s injury.
Aston Villa’s Scott Hogan receives treatment before being stretchered off
Late last year it appeared as though Rushian Hepburn-Murphy’s Aston Villa prospects were dimming, with the striker holding out on signing a new contract.
The talented teenage striker finally committed his future to the club late last month, but fitness problems have kept him out of action.
Now his incentive to get back to action is more pressing than ever, with first team striker Scott Hogan appearing to pick up a serious injury this week.
Hogan was stretchered off the field against Newcastle in the 2-0 loss at St James’ Park, amid fears he could be done for the season.
The full extent of his injury is yet to be revealed, but with a history which entails two long term knee lay-offs, Villa would be wise to be cautious.
With Ross McCormack loaned out and Rudy Gestede sold, Villa’s strike options are suddenly looking a little light behind Jonathan Kodjia.
Nobody wants to see Gabby Agbonlahor given more chances, so it is more important than ever that Hepburn-Murphy can get fit and seize the opportunity which may just have presented itself.
The young striker has seven goals in 11 games for the under-23 team this season, and is viewed as the club’s most exciting academy prospect.
With the club’s form on a serious slide, Steve Bruce needs inspiration from somewhere. A fit again Rushian Hepburn-Murphy could give his team the spark they desperately need.
