Villa secured a late point at home to Brentford on Wednesday night.

Aston Villa grabbed a late point in injury time thanks to Jonathan Kodjia’s 94th-minute equaliser against Brentford on Wednesday night to draw 2-2. Tony Xia and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy applauded the Ivorian on Twitter after the match.
Brentford opened the scoring through Neil Maupay, who smashed home an excellent Brentford counter after Villa had dominated the early stages. But Kodjia equalised with an excellent goal that left defender Ezri Konsa dumbfounded.
Kodjia, 28, twisted and turned his way into the box before crashing the ball past Daniel Bentley to equalise before half-time. But Brentford went back into the lead, as Orjan Nyland parried Ollie Watkins shot before Maupay followed up.
Nyland kept Villa alive with a number of important saves, including a point-blank effort to deny Maupay his hat-trick before Kodjia nodded Villa level in the 94th minute with a lopping header that deceived Bentley.
Hepburn-Murphy and Xia both reacted on Twitter after former Bristol City striker Kodjia had netted a brace, with chairman Xia Tweeting that Kodjia “is back” after his two goals.
Villa will feel slightly aggrieved that they were not awarded a penalty for a handball by Henrik Dalsgaard, while some fans will be wondering why striker Maupay was even on the pitch after a stamp on John McGinn during the first half.
Steve Bruce’s side have remained unbeaten after five matches, beating Hull and Wigan as well as drawing with Ipswich and Brentford. They have also knocked Yeovil Town out of the Carabao Cup.
Now, the Midlands outfit face Reading at Villa Park and Bruce will be hoping his side can get back to winning ways after two consecutive draws.
