Aston Villa’s under-23s sent out a message last night as they absolutely obliterated their rivals Wolves 6-1 in Walsall last night.

Villa, who have recently developed several top talents, completely ran the show against a wolves side containing the likes of Rafa Mir, Jordan Graham and Ruben Vinagre. It was a strong Wolves team, which makes the result even more impressive from the Villa youngsters.

Two players that really caught the eye were first-team fringemen Rushian Hepburn-Murphy and Callum O’Hare.

The pair both got their names on the scoresheet and also managed to get an assist each – the other goals courtesy of a Corey Blackett-Taylor brace and one apiece from Harvey Knibbs and Alex Prosser.

After the game both Hepburn-Murphy and O’Hare tweeted their joy at such a dominant and impressive performance:

Hepburn-Murphy, who signed a new deal at the club a little over a year ago, has had an injury plagues 12 months but is finding his form again. O’Hare meanwhile has been the star of the under-23 season and a lot of Aston Villa fans want to see him given some first-team action at the tail-end of the season.

That seems to be a little way off, but he will no doubt hope to follow in the footsteps of Jack Grealish in the months and years to come.
