Ollie Watkins was hoping back in February that Marcelo Bielsa would tell his Leeds player to do something ‘stupid’ in their promotion push, as the Brentford man could now join the champions of the Championship this summer.
After the turn of the year, Watkins was very praising of Leeds and Bielsa, whilst talking to White & Sawyer on TalkSport (05/02/20), and stated how he was seeing a ‘different’ Leeds to the one he was used to three or four years ago.
But fast forward to the present, and Watkins could now potentially become apart of that ‘different’ Leeds because the Yorkshire club are plotting a move for him, according to the Sunday Mirror (02/08 page 67).
It is said that Leeds are ready to pounce for Watkins signature if the Bees are to fall short in the Championship play-off final, which takes place tonight at Wembley.
If Watkins does somehow end up at Elland Road during this transfer window then Leeds will have a player that already knows what they, the club and the manager is about.
“I watched the Leeds documentary,” Watkins told TalkSport back in February. “When players like Ander Herrera, when he was at Manchester United, were saying that he’s the best manager he’s had then you have got to believe him really.

“The job he’s done at Leeds. The intensity of the players. Definitely, when we played against them, they were fit, they didn’t stop running and they were always moving.
“I think it’s a different Leeds to the one we’ve seen in the previous three or four years. He’s obviously doing a good job – Hopefully, he tells them to do something stupid this year.”
There’s no doubt that during the two seasons Bielsa has been in Yorkshire, he has transformed the club into a different animal, and they are now worthy of playing against the elite in England’s top-flight.
Watkins will be hoping to join them, one way or another. His preference will, of course, be with Brentford, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him part ways with the club if they are beaten by Fulham at Wembley.
